Title: Little STEAMers

Day of the week/Time: Sunday, 11-12. Two times a month.

Ages: 2-5

Goals: Integrate STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) elements into a storytime. Allow preschoolers a chance to explore STEAM topics through hands on activities.

Reasoning for Program: This program not only encourages literacy through reading and playing, but also encourages children to explore STEAM topics. It teaches caregivers how to discover STEAM topics in picture books and gives them ideas for extending the learning at home.

Activities: Library staff will read several books related to a STEAM theme, such as building, floating, or colors. Library staff and a volunteer will then lead the participants in an activity  related to that theme.

Supplies: Books in library collection, supplies for STEAM activities such as straws, paper towel rolls, tape, balloons, pipe cleaners.

Staff: 1 youth librarian or library assistant and 1 volunteer

Community Partners: N/A

Budget: $1000 yearly for STEAM supplies and books(paid for through LSTA grant).
