Title: Beginners Book Club

Day of the week/Time: Sunday, 3-4:30, 1 time a month

Ages: grades 2-3

Goals: The goal is to provide a fun and interactive way for children to explore books in a group setting.

Reasoning for Program: As children are beginning to read on their own this program provides a way from them to discuss what they are reading. Although at this point the children have moved beyond the early literacy stage they will still benefit from the elements of reading and talking.

Activities: The group will be lead by youth library staff and have a variety of fiction and non-fiction books that are discussed each month. Each session will include a discussion, craft, and snacks. Books will be distributed a month before the discussion along with a print out of the questions. If children do not feel comfortable talking in the group they are welcome to write the answers to the discussion prompts.

Supplies: Books for discussion, supplies for craft, snacks, print out of discussion questions.

Staff: 1 youth librarian or library assistant.

Community Partners: N/A

Budget: $40 for craft supplies and snacks. Books are provided through a donation from the Friends of the Library.
