Title: Board Book Exploration
Day of the week/Time: Friday, 10-10:45, 1 time a month
Ages: 0-2
Goals: Provide a storytime with new board books. Educate caregivers about how and what to read to babies. Encourage families to check out books.
Reasoning for Program: Caregivers may not know how to incorporate early literacy practices with babies. This storytime will model how to read and sing to babies, as well as provide direct tips. Having a special storytime with new board books showcases items that have recently been added to the collection.
Activities: The new board books that are added to the collection for the month will be brought to a special storytime. Library staff will read a couple of the books and sing a few songs. While reading the books library staff will add in comments about how the books help babies. For example, “Books with bold black and white patterns are great for young infants as they are able to see the contrast.”. Families will then be given time to explore the board books and ask library staff questions about reading to their babies. Finally, families will have the opportunity to check out brand new board books.
