Title: STEAM Saturday
Day of the week/Time: Saturday 3-5, 2 times a month
Ages: 5-10
Goals: Allow time for school age children to explore the concepts of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math).
Reasoning for Program: This program is a fun way for children to build their problem solving skills while also implementing elements of literacy such as talking and reading. They may need to communicate to a group of peers to solve a problem, which also might involve reading directions.
Activities: Children will attend a drop in program that allows them a chance to experiment
with projects that involve STEAM. Some examples of experiments are who can build the biggest balloon tower with just balloons and masking tape, making slime, and creating wind powered vehicles with everyday materials. There will be books on STEAM topics available for checkout. Staff and volunteers will be available to guide children, but the focus is on the children experimenting.
Supplies: Books in the collection on STEAM topics. Supplies for the STEAM activities.
Staff: 1 youth librarian or library assistant. 1 volunteer.
Community Partners: N/A
Budget: $2000 for supplies (funded by an LSTA grant)
