Introduction

Welcome to the Early Childhood Literacy Program site!

This site describes a years worth of programming for children ages 0-8 years and their families. The library it is designed for is a mid sized library in a large urban city. It serves a population of roughly 300,000.

The programs include weekly storytimes and examples of monthly programs. Some of the programs will occur each month, while others occur only a couple of times a year. While times and days of the week for the programs have been identified, specific dates have not been selected. When a specific year is being planned for the dates will be chosen.

Other elements of this site include research on early childhood literacy and a budget. The research will delve into the importance of providing programming at libraries and why it is necessary for these programs to not just be fun, but also include early literacy practices. The budget summarizes the cost of providing storytimes and the designated programs for one year. It does not include the full cost of operating a children’s section of the library since it does not include items such as staffing, printing costs, and collection development.
